Ducati has finally pulled off the much anticipated Panigale V4R and WOW, this really looks special and if the spec sheet is anything to go by then it's going to be a whole lot of fun and pretty frilling at the same time.

How much is it you ask? Good question, pricing will be announced during the press launch in early 2019, however, we can expect a price around £46,000.00.

The V4R is 1000cc, that's right, a smaller version of the Panigale V4 and Panigale V4S, which are both 1100cc. Ducati needed a smaller engine to enter in World SBK and BSB next year. But it’s filled with tech bits from MotoGP, this is what you get when you have to turn a road going superbike into an actual superbike. Ducati has said this is a much, much more extreme version of the 1100cc V4, so basically try if you dare.

What is new with the V4R over the standard V4

  • 221 HP @ 15,250 RPM (16,500 RPM limiter)
  • 81×48.4mm bore and stroke
  • New crank, 1.1kg lighter
  • Forged pistons
  • New camshaft
  • Bigger inlet valves and ducts
  • Bigger throttle bodies (+4mm) and dedicated trumpets
  • Titanium conrods (-100g each)
  • New oil pump & lighter rotor

The V4R looks like serious business and to be honest reminded me of the BMW S1000rr with those deep new side grill fairings. The frame and chassis have undergone some heavy modifications too from making the swingarm pivot adjustable and making the fairings 38mm wider overall as part of the aero package with these awesome front splitter winglets to add more downforce and stability at high speeds of up to 30%. The bike comes with Forged Marchesini Wheels, Olins NPX 25/30 43mm Forks, Ohlins TTX36 Shock, Exposed Aluminium Tank, and a 3 Position Adjustable swingarm.

The winglets, Claudio Domenicali (Ducati’s CEO) said are almost identical to those used on Ducati’s GP16 MotoGP bike and provide 30kg of downforce at 170MPH. That's something to think about while you climb the 16,500rpm rev limiter.

Electronics have also had some new features add and you can expect: Bosch cornering ABS, traction control, slide control, wheelie control, launch control, quick shift and auto blippers, engine brake control, data analyser with GPS and multimedia system. But now you can also find the likes of Pit lane limiters and lap times to the list of toys.
