Mercedes EQC 2019 first look

The new Mercedes-Benz all-electric SUV has finally landed and it’s called the “EQC”. It’s the first to wear Mercedes new production line EQ badge and is ready to take on the likes of Tesla Model X, Jaguar i-Pace and Audi’s e-Tron which is expected to land later September and BMW’s iX3 in 2019.

Mercedes also plans to roll out a range of other electric cars between now and 2022, with pure electric cars to join the family. We also expected to see a pair of electric saloons, called EQ E and EQ S which Mercedes say they want 15-25% of its car sales to be electric by 2025.

There’s an 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s linked to two electric motors, one to each axle for zero emissions all-wheel drive. Mercedes says there’s 300kW of power available (402bhp and 564lb ft) with a straight 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed (limited) 112mph. Mercedes also claims around 280 miles on one charge, however, we expect more like 210 if you have a heavy foot.

The new grille dressed in black gloss panel that houses the LED headlights really sets the electric Mercedes from the rest. However, There are still strikes of blue in the headlights and wheels to remind us of the environmentally friendly motors. You will be able to get your new EQC with the big 4x4 wheels in either 19’s or 21’s inches.

We expect to see five driving modes including Eco, Max Charge, Comfort, Sport and Individual. The first two have a haptic vibration on the accelerator pedal to gain the maximum miles available by reminding you to release the accelerator pedal to gain back some original miles, which uses interlinked data about your current speed and navigation info.

As for space, Mercedes has pointed out that the EQC comes with a 500litre boot so plenty of storage.
